How did you get started in bodybuilding?
I grew up in Singapore, Southeast Asia. I was a chubby, out-of-shape nerd, and I never dreamed of being an athlete. In 1992 my family relocated to Anchorage, Alaska and I attended Service High School. I found the high school had its own bodybuilding show, and the wrestling coach talked me into entering the contest.

Out of the 25 people in the competition, I placed dead last. After that I vowed that I would win the Mr. Service Bodybuilding Championship before I graduated.

In 1994 I won that show and then went on to win my division at the Teenage Nationals in 1997.
